National Environment Policy 2022-32
The Policy’s key objectives are to state clear environmental policy instruments in an integrated approach to environmental protection, conservation, and management across all of the Cook Islands including the safe disposal of toxic chemicals on wastes to name a few.
The Policy sets out six (6) policy objectives and instruments;
- Goal 1: Land
- Goal 2: Marine
- Goal 3: Biodiversity
- Goal 4: Water
- Goal 5: Air and Climate Change
- Goal 6: Waste
Waste is one of the thematic areas in the policy that looks at sustainable production and consumption objectives such as removal of legacy waste (e-waste, whiteware and end of life vehicles) from the Cook Islands and other initiatives such as sustainable tourism and land development activities.
