The Government of Denmark has become the latest funding partner to make a pledge to the One Planet Multi-Partner Trust Fund for Sustainable Development Goal 12 (SDG 12).
The Fund is a pooled funding mechanism for cohesive action to support countries in assessing, designing, prioritizing and implementing policies and practices for Sustainable Consumption and Production, bringing together the expertise of the One Planet network members and the comparative advantages of the participating UN agencies.
Entry points for the highest positive impacts:
It is important to prioritise measures, through sectors and hotspots of key value chains to identify where the greatest opportunity for improvement occurs.
For example:
- The buildings and construction sector accounts for 39% of energy and process-related CO2 emissions, including 11% from the manufacturing and procurement of building materials. It also accounts for 30% of global resource consumption. With the building stock set to double by 2050, emissions, energy and resource consumption are set to increase.
- The food sector is the dominant user of natural resources. Food systems, considered from production to consumption, are responsible for up to 37% of global GHG emissions, 60% of global terrestrial biodiversity loss, and the overexploitation of 20% of the world’s aquifers.
