“Addressing Plastic Pollution in Tourism through Sustainable Procurement”

While there is an abundance of tools out there to guide us as we try to transition into more sustainable ways of consumption and production, none are quite like the new one developed by the Global Tourism Plastics Initiative.

It focuses on the procurement of plastic items and packaging in the tourism industry with a focus on accommodation providers. Its aim is to provide practical support for procurement practitioners across sectors, public and private alike. The focus is on addressing the impact of single-use plastics and packaging.

The guidance document includes a recommended language for tender specifications, checklists, steps of action across the procurement cycle, and provides recommendations on procurement tools, labels and certifications.
